Started on X which is fitting. Followed a link to an <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheElders\/status\/1758068637569839406?s=20\">Open Letter<\/a> about intransigence of current world leaders to deal with the coming climate bomb among other issues.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Elders, Future of Life Institute and a diverse range of co-signatories call on decision-makers to urgently address the ongoing impact and escalating risks of the climate crisis, pandemics, nuclear weapons, and ungoverned AI.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Interesting reading, but was skeptical, sounded like a quasi-religious organisation &#8220;Future of Life&#8221;,\u00a0 &#8220;The Elders&#8221;, then I <a href=\"https:\/\/futureoflife.org\/open-letter\/long-view-leadership-on-existential-threats\/#text_block-1715-30848\">checked the signatories<\/a> and was pleasantly surprised to find some names I knew:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"sig-text\"><span class=\"sig-name\">Annie Lennox <\/span><span class=\"sig-byline\">Activist and Founder, The Circle<\/span><span class=\"sig-nationality\">UK<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"sig-text\"><span class=\"sig-name\">Cate Blanchett <\/span><span class=\"sig-byline\">Actor and film producer<\/span><span class=\"sig-nationality\">Australia<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"sig-name\">Gordon Brown <\/span><span class=\"sig-byline\">former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Julia GillardChair, Board of Governors, Wellcome and former Prime Minister of Australia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then I noticed the Universal access symbol, at bottom left of screen<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1039 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/html5accessibility.com\/stuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_9620-e1709483149342.jpg\" alt=\"snippet of the Future of life open letter page with the UserWay icon button displayed.\" width=\"750\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/html5accessibility.com\/stuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_9620-e1709483149342.jpg 750w, https:\/\/html5accessibility.com\/stuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_9620-e1709483149342-300x71.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><em><strong>Here we go,<\/strong><\/em> I thought&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>I pressed the icon, our <em>old friend<\/em> the UserWay Accessibility Menu appeared<\/p>\n<p class=\"note\"><a href=\"https:\/\/userway.org\/\">UserWay<\/a> is primarily an Accessibility Overlay company, who make <strong>BIG<\/strong> claims &#8220;Web Accessibility. Solved. Comply with ADA law and conform with WCAG 2.1 &amp; 2.2 guidelines at every step of your web accessibility journey. Join over 1 million websites and millions of users with disabilities who trust UserWay for their digital accessibility needs.&#8221; and were recently <a href=\"https:\/\/yatil.net\/blog\/level-access-userway\">aquired by Level Access<\/a>, one of the big 3 Accessibility Industry companies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1040 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/html5accessibility.com\/stuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_9622.jpg\" alt=\"An accessibility menu from a digital interface provided by UserWay. Pressed it once, no noticeable difference in text size, but the menu width was reduced&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1041 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/html5accessibility.com\/stuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_9624-e1709483795154.jpg\" alt=\"Userway Accessibility widget on furtureoflife.org. I should have not looked at this as when I do it makes me angry.
